Presentation accommodation
Last updated
A presentation accommodation changes how information is given to a student, such as reading aloud, large print, braille or visual supports.
Topic: Accommodations, modifications and instruction
In plain terms
Presentation accommodations help a student take in information through a route that works. Examples include text-to-speech, audiobooks, large print or magnification, braille, sign language interpretation, simplified directions, highlighted key words, and graphic organizers or visuals alongside spoken instructions.
How it shows up in an IEP
These accommodations should be named precisely: "directions read aloud and repeated once on request" rather than "help with directions." Some presentation accommodations, like reading a reading test aloud, may not be allowed on certain state tests, so check the state's manual.
Example
A student with low vision receives math worksheets enlarged to 18-point font and uses a handheld magnifier for maps in social studies.
The rule
Rules vary by state. Check your state's regulations and your district's procedures.
