Writing and spelling goals
Writing goals are hard to measure because writing samples vary so much. A rubric score of 3 on Monday and 2 on Thursday may say more about the prompt than about the student.
These guides show how to score writing samples in ways that hold steady from week to week: total words written, correct writing sequences and correct letter sequences for spelling. They cover goals for sentences, paragraphs, organization, spelling and mechanics, and the instruction behind each, from sentence combining to strategy instruction for planning and revising.
