Initial- and final-letter contractions in text

3-5Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For contracted braille readers learning the two-cell contractions that start with a dot 5, 4-5, 4-5-6, 4-6, or 5-6 prefix (such as day, ever, father, ance, ness). Present levels on the contractions taught decide the probe list.

Baseline
Build a probe with each taught contraction twice. Note whether the student reads the second cell as a separate letter, which shows the prefix is not yet recognized.
Tips
Group the contractions by prefix when teaching and probing. Use real classroom text as soon as possible so the contractions are met in context.
Limits
The template measures reading, not writing these contractions. It covers one contraction group; the full code takes several years for most readers.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-brl-016.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given braille sentences at the student's instructional level that include the initial- and final-letter contractions taught to date, the student will read each target word aloud independently with at least 90% accuracy on two-cell contractions read, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by curriculum-based measurement probes collected weekly.

Baseline: 50% accuracy.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Curriculum-based measurement gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Braille Literacy.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
