Use study hall time on assignments
When to use this goal
For high school students who spend study hall or a supported free period talking, gaming, or sleeping while assignments pile up. Fit depends on study hall observation and missing-work data, not grade. Pair with an assignment-completion goal in executive function when work quality is also a need.
- Baseline
- Use momentary checks every 5 minutes across two study halls a week for two weeks to estimate minutes on assignments. Also note whether the student had work to do; an empty list means the need is tracking assignments, not using the time.
- Tips
- Let the student choose the order of assignments. A short planned break is better than an unplanned long one. Count reading, studying with a peer, or asking the teacher for help as work time.
- Limits
- Duration does not show what was finished; check the assignment list too. Some study halls are noisy; a quieter seat may matter more than the goal.
