When to use this goal

For upper elementary students who copy whole sentences or leave notes blank when reading a social studies textbook. Present levels in finding a detail that answers a question decide fit.

Baseline
Collect two note sets from recent class work. Count copied sentences separately; heavy copying with accurate content means the student finds the information but needs paraphrasing practice.
Tips
Use the same organizer format the student will use in middle school. The organizer should match the text's headings so the structure is visible. Speech-to-text is fine if writing is a separate need.
Limits
The rubric scores the notes, not the student's later use of them. Textbooks without headings need a different organizer.
