Complete a one-page assignment during the work period
When to use this goal
For early elementary students whose present levels show one-page tasks half done when the period ends, on work they can do. Confirm the task is at the independent level. Present levels set the starting percentage.
- Baseline
- Collect ten recent one-page assignments and calculate the percentage of items with an attempted response. Note the time of day and subject; completion is often lower late in the day or in one subject.
- Tips
- An item counts when it has a response that addresses it, right or wrong. Scribbles and blank items do not count. If completion is low because the student starts late, use a task initiation goal first.
- Limits
- Percent completed says nothing about accuracy; track it alongside. Pages vary in item count, so percentages are more fair than raw counts.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a 15-minute independent work period with a one-page assignment at the student's independent level, the student will complete the items on the one-page assignment independently, completing at least 85% of assigned items on the page, on 8 of 10 consecutive assignments, as measured by work-sample analysis collected daily and summarized weekly.
Baseline: 40% of assigned work.

Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives work completion data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assignment Completion.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record how many assigned items were completed and how many were assigned for the defined work period.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
