Follow an audio story at the listening center
When to use this goal
For young students whose present levels show taking off the headphones, flipping ahead, or leaving the listening center within a few minutes, without an adult reading to them. Fits classrooms with audio books and matching print copies. Present levels decide the starting minutes.
- Baseline
- Time from the start of the audio to the first stop of more than 30 seconds (headphones off, pages far off the audio, leaving the center). Collect at least five sessions and note the story length and topic.
- Tips
- Ask one question about the story at the end to check that the time reflects listening. Let the student choose among two or three stories. Students who dislike headphones can use a speaker at low volume.
- Limits
- Measures listening persistence, not comprehension. Headphone comfort can limit time for some children; note it.
