Keep a backpack that holds only current materials
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show backpacks full of old papers, loose supplies, and crumpled work, so that current materials are hard to find. Fits any grade where present levels show the need; simplify the rubric rows for younger students.
- Baseline
- Score two or three unannounced checks before setting the target. Write the 0, 1, and 2 descriptors for each row in advance so any adult scores the same way. Note which row is lowest; it usually points to the missing routine.
- Tips
- Checks must be unannounced to reflect real habits. Agree on the assigned pocket for each item with the student. The weekly clean-out in the support options should use the same rows as the rubric.
- Limits
- Weekly rubric scores are coarse; two checks a month may not show change quickly. Does not show whether the student can find a given item when asked; see ef-org-019.
