Return from a hall pass on time

When to use this goal

For students whose restroom, water, or office trips stretch to 15 or 20 minutes, losing instruction. Restroom access is never limited; the goal is the return. Present levels, not grade, decide the target.

Baseline
Record leave and return times on a sign-out sheet for a week. Note medical needs, which are excluded.
Tips
Sign-out sheets give data for free. Never deny a restroom trip. If trips are escape, look at the class task too.
Limits
Health needs and the student's health plan override this goal, and restroom access is never reduced. Long restroom lines or distant restrooms change trip times; note them when they happen.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when leaving class with a hall pass during instruction, the student will complete the trip and return to class with the pass independently within 6 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive observed trips, as measured by duration recording collected daily, summarized weekly.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Time Management.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
