Complete an input-output table and state the rule

3-5, 6-8Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who continue number patterns but cannot handle a table where the inputs are not in order, which is the bridge to functions and equations. Present levels in number pattern rules decide readiness.

Baseline
Put inputs out of order on some tables; students who subtract down the output column instead of relating input to output will fail those. Score missing outputs and the rule separately.
Tips
Testing a guessed rule on two rows is the taught habit. Writing the rule with a variable prepares for equations and graphing in later templates.
Limits
Does not include graphing the function. Rule banks allow guessing; remove them once rules are found reliably.

Percent of attempted items answered correctly.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 input-output tables with a one-step rule and two missing outputs, the student will write the missing outputs and the rule for each table independently with at least 85% accuracy on function tables, on 3 of 4 consecutive probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 30% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Patterns, Data & Graphs.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
