Describe own progress from a personal graph
When to use this goal
For students who plot their own probe scores but do not use the graph to see how they are doing or to set the next step. Present levels in graphing own data (ma-dat-018) decide readiness.
- Baseline
- Score two conferences. Students often describe one score, not the trend; note it.
- Tips
- Builds self-advocacy and gives the student a voice in IEP meetings. Accept speech, sign or device.
- Limits
- The rubric scores the talk, not the progress itself.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, at a monthly data conference, given the student's own progress graph with a goal line, the student will describe the trend, compare it to the goal line, and name one next step independently, earning a score of at least 5 out of 6 on a 3-row data talk rubric (0 to 2 points per row), on 3 of 4 consecutive data conferences, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected monthly.
Baseline: 2 out of 6 rubric points.

Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Rubric scoring gives rubric score data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Patterns, Data & Graphs.

- Score each sample with a 3-row data talk rubric (0 to 2 points per row). Attach or reference the rubric's score descriptors.
- Use the same prompt type and conditions for each scored sample.
- If two people score, check agreement on a few samples before relying on the data.
