Name fractions equal to or greater than 1

3-5Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who think a fraction is always less than 1, and so cannot read 5/4 or 6/6 from a model. Present levels in naming fractions less than 1 decide readiness.

Baseline
Record when the student writes 5/8 for a model of 5/4 (counting all the parts in two wholes). That error shows the whole is not fixed.
Tips
Leads into mixed numbers and improper fractions (ma-fr-012). The bold outline around each whole is the key support.
Limits
Does not cover conversion procedures.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 area or number line models showing fractions from 1 to 3 with denominators 2, 3, 4 and 6, the student will write the fraction shown and circle whether it is less than, equal to or greater than 1 independently with at least 85% accuracy on fraction models, on 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 25% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Fractions.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
