Find the missing number in equivalent fractions

3-5, 6-8Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who can show equivalent fractions with models but cannot complete 3/4 = __/12 without drawing. Present levels in generating equivalent fractions with models and multiplication facts decide readiness.

Baseline
Record the additive error (2/3 = 11/12 by adding 9 to both). It shows the student does not see equivalence as scaling.
Tips
This is the step needed for common denominators. Showing the factor keeps the reason visible.
Limits
Measures the procedure; the concept is covered by model-based goals (ma-fr-004).

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ma-fr-027.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 20 equivalent fraction equations with one missing numerator or denominator, such as 2/3 = __/12, the student will write the missing number and the factor used to multiply or divide the top and bottom independently with at least 90% accuracy on equivalent fraction equations, on 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 35% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Fractions.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
