Tell time to the nearest five minutes and minute

When to use this goal

For students who read hours and half hours but cannot read 7:20 or 2:47 on a clock face. Present levels in skip counting by 5s around the clock decide readiness.

Baseline
Include times in the second half of the hour (for example, 4:50), where the hour hand is close to the next numeral and the error rate jumps. Record whether the minute count or the hour is wrong, since they need different fixes.
Tips
Writing times in digital form (7:20) avoids the language of "past" and "to" at first; add that language once reading is reliable if the classroom uses it.
Limits
Does not measure elapsed time or using time to plan. Clock reading on worksheets may be faster than reading a real wall clock across the room; check in the real setting.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 analog clock faces showing times to the nearest five minutes, the student will write the time shown on each clock in digital form independently with at least 90% accuracy on clock readings, on 3 of 4 consecutive probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 30% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Measurement, Time & Money.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
