Read and write decimals in three forms

3-5, 6-8Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who can name decimal places on a chart but cannot write "four and six hundredths" as 4.06 or read 2.3 correctly. Present levels in decimal place value decide readiness.

Baseline
Include numbers needing placeholder zeros (four and six hundredths is 4.06). Score each form separately on the second condition so the weakest form is clear.
Tips
Saying "and" only for the decimal point is a useful rule to teach. Money amounts are a good bridge for hundredths.
Limits
Measures notation, not number size. Dictation depends on listening; repeat each number twice.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 decimals to the thousandths read aloud by the teacher, the student will write each decimal in standard form independently with at least 85% accuracy on decimals written, on 3 of 4 consecutive probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 30% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Number Sense.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
