Wear a new prosthesis through class activities
When to use this goal
For young students getting used to a new or first prosthesis whose wearing time at school is building up on a schedule set by the prosthetist. Present levels and that schedule, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Log the minutes worn each day for one to two weeks, along with why it came off (schedule, discomfort, choice). Use the prosthetist's schedule to set a target the medical team agrees with. Weight-bearing limits, wearing schedules and equipment settings come from the student's physician, orthotist or prosthetist and the PT plan, never from this goal.
- Tips
- Telling an adult about rubbing or pain always counts as success, even when the prosthesis then comes off. Keep a private spot to take it off and check skin. Share the daily log with the family and prosthetist.
- Limits
- The target must never go beyond the medical wearing schedule. Minutes worn do not show whether the student uses the prosthesis well. Skin problems mean stopping and calling the family.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during morning class activities on the days the wearing schedule calls for school wear, the student will keep the prosthesis on and use it during class activities, telling an adult right away if it rubs or hurts independently for at least 120 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by duration recording collected daily on the wearing log.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Mobility Equipment Use.
Met: Level of support. Defined.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Start timing when the defined behavior begins and stop when it ends, using the definitions agreed by the team.
- The goal is reached when duration is at least the target (120 minutes).
- Note interruptions that weren't caused by the student.
