Summarize a science article's findings
When to use this goal
For high school students who read science news articles or simplified research summaries as a jumble of facts. Pulling out the question, how it was studied, and what was found is a core science literacy skill. Present levels decide the text level.
- Baseline
- Use articles with all four parts present. Note whether the student confuses the method with the finding.
- Tips
- Coordinate with the science teacher. Student science news sites are a good source.
- Limits
- Science vocabulary affects comprehension; preteach key terms.

Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Rubric scoring gives rubric score data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Reading Comprehension.
