Silent-e and vowel teams in a decodable chapter

3-5, K-2Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students in the second year of a phonics program who read silent-e and vowel-team words on lists but make many errors on them in longer decodable texts. Present levels decide where the student is in the sequence.

Baseline
Score only the marked words. Compare with list accuracy; a gap means attention to vowel patterns drops in longer text.
Tips
Chapter-length decodables give older elementary students more grown-up reading while staying decodable.
Limits
Decodable chapter books vary; use one series for probes.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given an unpracticed 200-word decodable chapter built on taught silent-e and vowel-team patterns, with those words marked on the examiner copy, the student will read the chapter section aloud independently with at least 95% accuracy on marked silent-e and vowel-team words, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by curriculum-based measurement probes collected weekly.

Baseline: 75% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Curriculum-based measurement gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Phonics & Decoding.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
