Write b and d correctly in dictated words
When to use this goal
For students who reverse b and d in their writing, which makes their spelling hard to read. Fit depends on present levels showing the student spells the dictated words otherwise.
- Baseline
- Score each b or d, not the whole word. Check free writing too; reversals there show whether the skill transfers.
- Tips
- Teach b as starting with a tall line and d as starting with a c-shape, and say the formation path aloud. Pairs with the OT if formation is a broader need.
- Limits
- Self-corrected letters can be hard to score on paper; decide a rule. Writing reversals often outlast reading reversals.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 10 dictated words that contain b or d, the student will write each word with b and d facing the right way independently with at least 95% accuracy on b and d letters written correctly in dictated words, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
