Find the word that does not rhyme

K-2Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For kindergarten students who can say whether two words rhyme but are not yet comparing several words for their endings. Present levels decide readiness.

Baseline
Use 10 items. Include distractors that share the first sound (cat, cap, hat) so the student must attend to the ending.
Tips
Pointing to pictures makes this accessible for students who do not speak.
Limits
Three-choice items give 33% by chance. Memory for three words affects results.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 3 spoken words, two of which rhyme, the student will say or point to the word that does not rhyme independently with at least 85% accuracy on odd-one-out rhyme items, across 3 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 40% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Phonological Awareness.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.
