Explain historical events in time order

6-8, 9-12Rubric scoreTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who know the events of a history unit but write about them out of order or without dates, so a reader cannot follow the sequence. Present levels should show paragraph writing; the target is chronological structure with dates and time transitions.

Baseline
Score two history responses that ask for a sequence, each row 0 to 3. Separate order errors from content errors (a wrong event). Keep the timeline the student used.
Tips
Plan with the history teacher so unit questions are the data. Timelines are a fair support; fade them by having the student make their own. The pattern also fits science (stages) and literature (plot).
Limits
Content knowledge drives the events row. Some topics do not have clear dates; accept relative time words. Conventions are not scored.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a question about a sequence of events in the current history unit and class notes, the student will write a paragraph that opens with a topic sentence about the sequence, tells at least four events in order with dates or time transitions, and closes by stating the result of the events independently, earning a score of at least 9 out of 12 on a 12-point chronological paragraph rubric, on 3 of 4 consecutive scored paragraphs, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 3 out of 12 rubric points.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Rubric score fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Rubric scoring gives rubric score data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Paragraph Organization.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
