Take class notes on a braille notetaker

9-12, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school braille users who take their own notes in lectures and discussions. Present levels in braille keyboard speed and in picking out key points decide fit.

Baseline
Collect notes from five class periods and check each against the teacher's list of key points. A class counts when the notes are saved and include at least the main points the teacher named.
Tips
Agree with the teacher on the key points of each lesson ahead of time. Review notes with the student so they can use them to study.
Limits
The template counts usable notes, not writing quality or recall. Students who cannot keep up may need teacher notes as an accommodation; the goal and the accommodation can sit side by side.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ac-brl-032.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a lecture or teacher-led discussion in a general education class, with an electronic braille notetaker, the student will take notes that include the date, the topic, and the main points the teacher stated as key independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected weekly from saved class notes.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Braille Literacy.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
