Sort job materials using magnification and lighting
When to use this goal
For transition-age students with low vision in job training who sort, check, or stock items with small labels. Present levels in tool use and the job's visual demands decide fit.
- Baseline
- Check a full set of sorted items on two shifts and count errors. Note whether errors come from labels not seen or from the task rules.
- Tips
- Work with the employer on reasonable changes such as a task light or larger shelf labels. Speed can be added later as a separate measure.
- Limits
- Job tasks vary; rewrite the condition for the student's real job. The template does not measure work stamina.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, at a job site or transition program task, given items with small labels to sort or shelve, with a task light and the student's magnifier, the student will set up the task light, check each label with magnification as needed, and sort the items correctly independently with at least 95% accuracy on items sorted or shelved correctly, on 4 of 5 consecutive work shifts, as measured by work-sample analysis collected each work shift.
Baseline: 60% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Low Vision & Visual Efficiency.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
