Find a service desk in a public building

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For travelers learning to find their way in large indoor public places such as a library, mall, clinic, or government office. Present levels in indoor orientation and asking for help decide fit.

Baseline
Use two buildings and two destinations in each, and record whether the student reaches each one, needs help, or is guided.
Tips
Asking staff for directions counts as a correct strategy. Plan ahead about entrances, elevators, and restrooms.
Limits
Large open spaces are hard to orient in. The goal does not replace the O&M specialist's judgment about when the student is ready for a harder route or less supervision.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when entering an unfamiliar public building during a community O&M lesson, the student will enter, use sound, layout clues, or a question to find the information or service desk, and state their need independently in 4 of 4 opportunities, across 4 consecutive community lessons, as measured by direct observation collected during each community lesson.

Baseline: 1 of 4 opportunities.
