Complete make-up work within the catch-up window

When to use this goal

For middle school students whose missing work after absences piles up, which makes the next absence more likely. Base the choice on gradebook records. The teacher and case manager trim make-up work to the essentials first.

Baseline
Look at the last few absences: how much make-up work was assigned and how much was turned in. Ask the student what got in the way. Before writing the goal, find out why school is being missed (anxiety, a hard class, peer problems, health, sleep, caregiving, transport) with the student and family, and build the support plan around that reason.
Tips
Only work on the trimmed list counts. Teachers agree on the list and dates at re-entry (bh-att-008). Excused absences still get make-up time without penalty.
Limits
Measures completion, not quality. Long absences may need a separate plan with modified work.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, after an absence, with a trimmed make-up list and catch-up dates set with each teacher, the student will complete and turn in the trimmed list of make-up assignments by the catch-up dates independently, completing at least 85% of assigned make-up assignments on the trimmed list, across 3 consecutive returns, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly, from the gradebook and tracker.

Baseline: 30% of assigned work.
