Sit with the class through an assembly or performance
When to use this goal
For students who leave, call out, or need to be removed during assemblies, performances, or large-group events. Measures continuous time with the class. Base the choice on timed events. Sensory needs (noise, crowds) may call for accommodations rather than a longer target.
- Baseline
- Time the longest stretch seated with the class at 2 or 3 events and note what led to leaving (noise, length, a specific act). Ask the student what is hard about assemblies. Plan an exit route and a quiet spot before using this goal.
- Tips
- A planned exit using the agreed signal is a success, not a failure; stop the clock, record the time, and let the student rejoin if they choose. Preview the program and seat the student where sound is lowest. Events are rare, so mastery is counted in events, not weeks.
- Limits
- Events differ in length and intensity, so data are noisy; record the event type. Sitting through a loud event should not be required of a student who finds it painful; accommodations come first.
