Wait with staff until a known adult arrives
When to use this goal
For young students who run toward cars, leave the pickup line, or go with any adult who waves, at dismissal or pickup. Fit depends on dismissal observation, not age. The adults on the pickup list and the release procedure are the school's responsibility; the goal is the student's part.
- Baseline
- Time from arrival in the pickup area to the first time the student leaves it without being released, for five dismissals, and note the usual wait. The target should match the longest normal wait; a release by staff before the target time counts as meeting it. Record what draws the student away (a parent's car, a sibling, a play area).
- Tips
- Give the student something to do while waiting. Tell families to stay at the release point rather than calling the student over. Mastery uses consecutive dismissals because a single bolt to a car is a serious risk.
- Limits
- This goal never replaces the school's release procedure or adult supervision at pickup. Long or unpredictable waits make the goal much harder; record wait length.
