Match community helpers to their jobs

K-2, 3-5Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who can name a few workers (teacher, doctor) but cannot say what other community workers do or who to go to for a problem. Present levels in receptive vocabulary decide whether to use pointing or naming.

Baseline
Use photos of real workers of varied backgrounds, not costumes. Probe both matching and problem questions before choosing a behavior; the problem version is harder and closer to real use.
Tips
Include school workers (nurse, custodian, office staff) the student meets every day. The problem version links to safety and self-advocacy: knowing who helps with what. Community walks or visits give real practice.
Limits
Matching photos is easier than knowing who to ask in a real situation. The goal does not cover how to contact a worker; see functional and safety templates for that.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 8 photos of community workers (such as a firefighter, mail carrier, nurse, bus driver) and 8 photos of the work they do, the student will match each worker to the photo of the work they do independently with at least 88% accuracy on community worker matches, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 38% accuracy.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Social Studies Skills.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
