Submit a lab report for every lab

When to use this goal

For science students who do the lab but never turn in the report. Present levels and writing supports, not grade, decide the format.

Baseline
Pull lab report submissions from the gradebook for the last term and note which parts of returned reports were missing. Ask the student where reports usually stall (data table, analysis, conclusion).
Tips
Starting the report in class right after the lab, while the data are fresh, is the strongest support. A partially filled template (headings, data table) can fade to a blank one. Speech-to-text helps when writing is slow.
Limits
Does not score report quality or science understanding; the science teacher's rubric does that. Lab schedules vary, so data come in bursts.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, after each science lab, with a lab report template, the student will finish and submit the lab report by its due date independently, completing at least 85% of assigned lab reports, across 2 consecutive grading periods, as measured by work-sample analysis collected with each lab report.

Baseline: 40% of assigned work.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Work completion fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives work completion data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assignment Completion.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
