Stay with a self-chosen center activity for a set number of minutes

PK, K-2DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For children who move from center to center every minute without engaging in any. Fits free-choice time with several centers. Present levels decide the starting minutes.

Baseline
Time the longest stretch at any one center across several days and note which centers hold the child longest. Begin with those centers. Distinguish wandering from purposeful visiting of several centers to gather materials.
Tips
The episode starts when the child begins using the center's materials and ends after more than 10 seconds away from the center or without using materials. Watching peers at the center counts as engaged in the early stages if the team agrees. Record the longest episode per session.
Limits
Preferred centers inflate the number; vary centers over time and note which was used. Staying at one center is not the whole picture of play; see play goals for quality.
