Stay engaged with a partner during a paired task
When to use this goal
For students who drift away from partner tasks, leaving the partner to do the work. Fits classes that use partner reading, games, or problem solving. Present levels decide the starting minutes.
- Baseline
- Observe several partner tasks and time the longest engaged episode. Note whether the partner's behavior affects it and whether the student does better with certain partners or tasks. Rotate partners during baseline.
- Tips
- Engaged means taking turns when it is the student's turn, attending to the shared material, or responding to the partner about the task. The episode ends after more than 10 seconds of unrelated activity or leaving the pair. Train partners on the routine so their behavior is consistent.
- Limits
- Partner behavior strongly shapes the data; use consistent, trained partners during data collection. Social difficulty may look like inattention; consult with the team.
