Keep up with a teacher-led small group
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show strong engagement one to one but drifting in a group of four to six, waiting out other students' turns. Fits intervention groups and guided reading or math groups. Present levels and the group's pace, not grade, decide the target.
- Baseline
- A second adult or the group leader notes the minute mark of the first break of 30 seconds or more (leaving the materials, turning away, side activity). Collect at least five groups and note the group size and how often the student had a turn.
- Tips
- Groups that give every student a response on every item (whiteboards, choral answers, partner talk) help attention and are worth keeping. Note whether drifts happen during other students' turns; if so, the whiteboard support targets that gap directly.
- Limits
- Group composition and pacing drive this measure. Does not measure skill gains from the intervention itself.

- Start timing when the defined behavior begins and stop when it ends, using the definitions agreed by the team.
- The goal is reached when duration is at least the target (18 minutes).
- Note interruptions that weren't caused by the student.
