Underline key words before answering

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For middle school students who misread questions (missing "not", "except", "both") because they answer after skimming. Present levels decide fit. Underlining the key words in each question is the pause.

Baseline
Score 15 questions on two tests for key-word marks and note misreads. Write an operational definition first (what counts as the impulsive response and what counts as using the strategy), and teach and practice the strategy before measuring it.
Tips
Each question is one opportunity, scored from the marks.
Limits
Marks do not ensure correct answers.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, on classroom tests and quizzes, the student will underline or highlight the key words in each question before writing an answer independently on at least 13 of 15 items, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 5 of 15 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Impulse Control & Inhibition.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.
