Arrive at class with a charged device and charger

When to use this goal

For students in one-to-one device programs whose present levels show lost class time because the device is dead, at home, or missing its charger. For students who can read the battery indicator.

Baseline
Record for two weeks whether the device was present and charged at the first class that used it. Ask the family where the device is charged and whether a charging spot exists. If the device is often left at school on purpose, the fix is a routine, not a goal.
Tips
Each school day is one opportunity. Met means device present, charged to the agreed level, and charger in the bag. Agree on a visible charging spot at home and add plugging in to the evening routine. A spare charger at school removes one failure point.
Limits
Battery health and home electricity access are outside the student's control; note these. Does not measure use of the device for learning.

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the start of each class that uses the school device, the student will arrive with the school device charged to at least 50 percent and the charger in the bag independently in at least 9 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected daily and summarized every 10 school days.

Baseline: 5 of 10 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Organization.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
