File and flag teacher messages within a day
When to use this goal
For older students who miss assignment changes, deadlines, and meeting notices because school email and platform messages pile up unread. The student should be able to read the messages with any access tools in place. Present levels, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- With the student, look at the last 10 teacher or counselor messages: how many were opened within a day, flagged when they needed action, and filed. Inbox read times and labels give the data without extra work.
- Tips
- The case manager can check inbox status in the weekly meeting in a few minutes. Messages count as opportunities only if they come from staff, not newsletters. Teach the student to unflag a message once the action is done.
- Limits
- Depends on staff using email; some schools rely on platform messages, so adjust the folders. Does not measure whether the student acts on flagged messages; add a follow-through goal if needed.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
