Store all project parts in one folder

When to use this goal

For students whose long projects fall apart because rubrics, drafts, sources, and pieces are spread across backpacks, desks, and devices. The project should be one the student can do. Present levels, not grade, decide whether the folder is paper, digital, or both.

Baseline
At the end of several project sessions, check the folder against the contents list and count sessions where everything is in it. Ask the student where missing items are; the answers show where things go astray.
Tips
A quick folder check at the door takes seconds. Digital projects get a project folder in the drive with the same contents list. Pair with a planning goal (ef-pl-001) when the project has dated steps.
Limits
Projects are irregular; data come in bursts. Does not measure the quality or completion of project work.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ef-org-026.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a multi-week class project, at the end of each work session, the student will put every project item (rubric, drafts, notes, sources) in the labeled project folder independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 2 consecutive projects, as measured by direct observation collected at each project work session.

Baseline: 1 of 6 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Organization.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
