Open the locker combination within two tries

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For middle school students whose present levels show forgetting the combination or the turn sequence and asking an adult to open the locker, which makes them late. The motor turn sequence may also need practice. Present levels, not grade, decide the starting support.

Baseline
Watch six locker stops or logins over two days and note whether the student opened it within two tries, needed the written code, or asked for help. Practice the turns with an open lock to separate motor errors from memory errors.
Tips
Keep the written code private and the support fading on a plan: visible, then folded, then removed. A key lock or a locker without a lock is a reasonable accommodation if the lock remains a barrier after practice.
Limits
Mixes memory and motor skill; note which kind of error happens. Passing period rush adds pressure; practice at quiet times first.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the locker during passing periods with a three-number combination, the student will open the lock or log in using the stored sequence within two tries independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by direct observation collected daily, scoring six locker stops or logins.

Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Working Memory Strategies.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
