Tell medicine apart from candy look-alikes
When to use this goal
For students who might mistake pills or gummy vitamins for candy. Present levels in sorting and in naming or pointing decide fit. Practice uses photos only, never real medicine.
- Baseline
- Use 20 photos (10 pairs). Score each sort. This is safety knowledge, so the target is every item, and missed pairs go to the family.
- Tips
- The rule is the key: anything that might be medicine is only from a trusted adult or the nurse. Pair with fn-cs-027 (telling an adult). Suggest locked storage to families.
- Limits
- Some look-alikes cannot be told apart by sight; the rule covers those. Sorting photos does not show what the student does with a real find.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 10 photo pairs of medicine and candy that look alike (pills and mints, gummy vitamins and gummies), the student will sort each photo as medicine or food and say the rule for medicine independently with 100% accuracy on look-alike photos sorted, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
