Eat lunch within a work break

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students in work-based learning whose lunch break has a fixed length and who return late because unpacking, eating, or clean-up runs over. Present levels from timed breaks at the site decide fit. Breaks are the student's time; the goal is to finish and be back on time.

Baseline
Time from clocking out to clocking back in, or leaving and returning to the station, for 4 or 5 shifts. Note what took the most time, such as waiting for the microwave.
Tips
Pack food that does not need heating if the microwave line is long. Teach clocking out and in as part of the routine. Coworkers' breaks are a good model; let the student sit with them if they want.
Limits
Depends on the site's break rules. Feeding plans take priority over speed.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a 30-minute lunch break in a job site break room, with a packed lunch, the student will get the lunch, eat, clean up the space, and be back at the work station independently within 30 minutes, across 4 consecutive shifts, as measured by duration recording collected at each shift with a lunch break.

Baseline: 42 minutes.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Daily Living Skills.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
