Record and find dates on a calendar
When to use this goal
For students who are told about an upcoming event or due date and cannot put it on a calendar or find it later. Present levels in reading days and numbers and in writing short words decide whether a paper or digital calendar is used.
- Baseline
- Probe recording and finding separately: dictate 5 events, then ask 5 questions. Note whether the student confuses the day number with the week row, or writes in the right box with an unreadable entry.
- Tips
- Use the classroom calendar and the student's real events (appointments, due dates, birthdays). Counting days until an event is a useful extension once recording is solid. Digital calendars add alerts, which link to fn-si-001.
- Limits
- Recording an event does not mean the student checks the calendar; add a daily check routine. Date formats (3/4 vs. March 4) confuse some students, so teach one format first.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a monthly paper calendar and 5 events with dates to record and later find, the student will record each event on the correct date and find it when asked independently with at least 90% accuracy on calendar entries and questions, on 3 consecutive probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Functional Academics.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
