Rejoin class after a restroom trip
When to use this goal
For primary students who stay away long after a restroom trip, wander the halls, or come back and do not know what to do. Present levels decide fit, not grade. Use only when the trip itself is going well; toileting needs belong in toileting goals.
- Baseline
- Note how long trips take and where the student goes. Observe the transition on at least 3 days and mark each step as independent, done with a named prompt (gesture, picture, verbal, physical), or not done. Count only independent steps.
- Tips
- Score from the doorway and the hall where possible; never follow the student into the restroom to collect data. Keep the pass and the steps card simple. A student who needs a longer break should have a break plan, not shorter trips.
- Limits
- Measures the return, not the time away. Medical needs that make trips longer should be discussed with the nurse and family first.

- Write the date at the top of each session column. Mark each step I, S, or N.
- Total the number of I marks for the session. The goal counts steps completed independently (target: 5 of 6).
- Use the least intrusive prompt first and record the prompt actually needed.
