Research a job or program and record facts
When to use this goal
For students who have named a job interest and can use a search engine or a provided website but cannot find or record the facts that matter (duties, requirements, cost, location). Use present levels in reading and web navigation to decide whether sites are pre-selected.
- Baseline
- Score 2 research sheets on different jobs; an item is correct when the fact recorded matches the source. Note where the student got stuck (finding the page, reading it, or writing the fact) so instruction targets the right step.
- Tips
- Use the research sheet as a reusable tool so the student builds a file of jobs explored. Pair with fn-tr-001 (job-match reflection) to turn facts into a decision. Government career sites and local program pages are reliable sources for this task.
- Limits
- Web content changes, so the answer key must be checked each time. Accuracy on a sheet does not show whether the student can judge if the job is realistic for them.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a job title or training program name and a research sheet, with access to the internet, the student will complete the research sheet with facts about the job or program independently with at least 85% accuracy on research sheet items completed correctly, on 3 consecutive research sheets, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Transition-Related Skills.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
