Plan a summer that builds toward own goals
When to use this goal
For students whose summers are unstructured and lose the skills and routines built during the year. Present levels in planning decide whether the plan is written, pictured or made with family on a calendar.
- Baseline
- Score a first draft in early spring, when sign-up deadlines are still open. Note whether the student knows of any summer options.
- Tips
- Summer work programs and pre-employment transition services often run summer options; share deadlines early. Ask the student in the fall how the plan went and use it for next year.
- Limits
- Plans depend on family schedules, cost and transportation. The rubric scores the plan, not the summer.
