Build up to a full-length shift

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students whose placements are short (an hour or less) and who need to build stamina for the shift length of a real job. Present levels in physical stamina, health needs and regulation decide how fast the shift grows.

Baseline
Record how long the student works before the first unscheduled stop (asking to leave, a long rest, leaving the area) on 3 to 5 shifts. Note time of day and any health factors.
Tips
Grow the shift in planned steps agreed with the family and supervisor. Health conditions, medication and fatigue matter; involve the school nurse when needed. Stamina is about the shift, not about pushing through pain or illness.
Limits
Unscheduled breaks for health or regulation are always allowed and are noted, not counted against the student. Does not measure work quality.

How long a behavior lasts, from a defined start to a defined end.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

The length of time a behavior lasts is timed from a defined start to a defined end.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a work-based learning placement with the shift length set by the supervisor and scheduled breaks, the student will work the scheduled shift with only the scheduled breaks independently for at least 180 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive shifts, as measured by duration recording collected at each shift.

Baseline: 60 minutes.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocational & Work Readiness.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
