Graph a line from slope-intercept form

9-12Task-analysis stepsTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school students who plot the slope as a point or start from the origin instead of the intercept. Present levels in plotting points and in reading slope as a fraction decide fit.

Baseline
Observe two or three graphs and mark each step. Negative slopes and whole-number slopes (written as over 1) cause most errors.
Tips
The data-graphs-patterns template covers graphing from a table; this one is from an equation. Checking with a graphing app gives instant feedback.
Limits
The checklist covers one graph's routine. Non-integer slopes are not included.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID ma-alg-028.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

Condition

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of routine steps performed independently.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Task-analysis steps

Write each step so an observer can mark it done or not done.

Criterion wording

Data collection

A routine is broken into ordered steps; each step is recorded as independent, supported, or not completed.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given an equation in slope-intercept form with integer slope and intercept and a coordinate grid, the student will graph the line by hand starting from the intercept and using the slope, performing at least 6 of 7 steps independently, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by a task-analysis checklist collected weekly.

Baseline: 2 of 7 steps independently.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Task-analysis steps fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Task-analysis checklist gives task-analysis steps data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Algebra & Equations.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
