Say addition and subtraction facts within 3 seconds

When to use this goal

For students who reach facts by counting and need to show which facts they now recall without counting. Present levels from a flash card check (known within 3 seconds, known slowly, unknown) decide which facts to include.

Baseline
Sort every fact into known within 3 seconds, correct but slow, and incorrect. The 3-second rule separates recall from counting; use a timer or count silently the same way every time.
Tips
Use the sorted list to plan practice: a few unknown facts at a time mixed with known ones. Students who use AAC can select from a number board within the time limit.
Limits
Oral probes take one-to-one time. A 3-second window may need to be longer for students with slow processing or motor speech needs; record any change.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a shuffled deck of 30 addition and subtraction fact cards within 20, shown one at a time, the student will say the answer to each fact within 3 seconds independently with at least 90% accuracy on facts answered within 3 seconds, across 3 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 35% accuracy.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Addition & Subtraction.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
