Halve or double a recipe with fractions
When to use this goal
For students in foods, life skills or culinary programs who need to change recipe amounts that include fractions (half of 3/4 cup, double 1 1/2 teaspoons). Present levels in fraction of a number and in measuring cups decide readiness.
- Baseline
- Record errors by type (halving the numerator only, doubling the denominator). Include amounts like 1/3 cup that are awkward to halve.
- Tips
- Pair with measuring ingredients (ma-mtm-026). The measuring-tool behavior is the step that makes the recipe work.
- Limits
- Some halved amounts need unit changes (half of 1/4 cup is 2 tablespoons); add those once basic halving is steady.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a recipe with 5 to 8 ingredients that include fractions, and the direction to halve or double it, the student will write the new amount for each ingredient with units independently with at least 90% accuracy on adjusted amounts, on 3 of 4 consecutive recipes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.
Baseline: 30% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Fractions.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
