Find budget amounts from percents of income

9-12Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school students planning a budget who need to turn percent guidelines (save 10%, spend no more than 30% on housing) into dollar amounts. Present levels in finding a percent of a number with a calculator decide readiness.

Baseline
Use sample figures, not real family income. Record whether the student checks that the parts add to the whole.
Tips
Pair with the budgeting goal in measurement, time and money (ma-mtm-019). Use local rents and wages from the transition plan.
Limits
Budget percents are guidelines, not rules; keep the discussion neutral about family choices.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a monthly take-home amount and 4 to 6 budget categories with percents, with a calculator, the student will find the dollar amount for each category and check that the categories add up to the total independently with at least 90% accuracy on budget amounts, on 3 of 4 consecutive probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 30% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Fractions.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
