Write strategy-family facts on a timed probe

3-5, 6-8Rate (per minute)TemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students learning multiplication facts one strategy family at a time (2s, 5s, 10s; then 4s and 8s; then 9s; then 3s and 6s), who need fluency data on the family being taught. Present levels from an untimed fact check by family decide the order.

Baseline
Give one probe per family to see which families are known. Use the median of three probes for the starting family.
Tips
Mixing earlier families keeps them strong. The all-facts probe (ma-md-001) is the end check once every family is learned.
Limits
Rates from different families are not directly comparable; graph each family separately.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Count of correct responses per minute on a timed task.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

A fixed-length timing (for example, 1 or 2 minutes) used to calculate a per-minute rate.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a 1-minute probe of facts from the current strategy family mixed with facts from families already learned, the student will write the answer to each fact independently at a rate of at least 30 digits correct per minute, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by timed probes collected weekly.

Baseline: 10 digits correct per minute.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Rate (per minute) fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Timed probes gives rate (per minute) data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Multiplication & Division.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
