Figure out how many boxes are needed

When to use this goal

For students in work-based learning or school jobs who pack, bundle or set up items in groups (12 per box, 8 per table) and need to know how many containers to get. Present levels in division with remainders or calculator division decide readiness.

Baseline
Include problems that divide evenly so rounding up is not automatic. With a calculator, record whether the student reads a decimal (12.5) as needing another box.
Tips
Coordinate with the job coach for site data. The second behavior fits tasks where only full boxes ship.
Limits
Covers one-step division. Mixed container sizes are a later objective.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 packing situations such as 150 items packed 12 per box, with a calculator, the student will divide, round up when there is a remainder, and state how many containers are needed and how many go in the last one independently with at least 90% accuracy on packing problems, on 3 consecutive weekly checks, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 30% accuracy.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Multiplication & Division.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
